Setting up appropriate equipment - P2(a)

For the crane shot we have used Canon 7D DSLR with lens Canon 18-55 mm zoom f/3.5-5.6 mf/af (wide angle), K9 - Hague CamCrane With Stand and Camera Tilt control and Lilliput 668 GL - 70NP/H/Y Monitor.

The Canon EOS 7D is a semi-professional cropped sensor digital single-lens reflex camera made by Canon. Among its features are an 18.0 effective megapixel CMOS sensor, HD video recording, its 8.0 frames per second continuous shooting, new viewfinder which offers 1.0X magnification and 100% coverage, 19 point auto-focus system, movie mode, and built-in Speedlite transmitter.

The Canon 2042B002 EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Zoom Lens is a standard zoom lens designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining the compactness and lightness of previous models. Its stabilization allows sharp hand-held shots at shutter speeds up to four stops slower than otherwise possible. It consists of 11 elements in 9 groups and uses an aspherical lens element to correct aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range and a circular aperture for exquisite rendering of out-of-focus backgrounds. Without a lot of size, weight or cost, this lens expands picture-taking possibilities any time slow shutter speeds are needed.

The Hague CamCrane K9 is quick and simple to set up and supports cameras up to 2.5kg. It’s ideal for handheld camcorders and DSLRs. The CamCrane is supplied with it's own Stand, which can be adjusted for height, or an optional tripod bearing block is available which allows the CamCrane to be attached to any 100 or 75mm "bowl type" tripod. 

The camera fastens directly to a camera plate on a pulley at the end of the crane, it’s this pulley system that holds the camera level as the CamCrane is raised or lowered. A variable tilt control with lock enables you to tilt the camera 90 degrees and the camera pulley can be set in any position, so you can have the camcorder pointing directly downwards or upwards creating some very unusual shots. Once balanced the camera can smoothly move from ground level to over 5 metres high and the crane will pan 360 degrees on the stand. 

The 668GL-70NP/H/Y features a 7 inch screen with enhanced brightness, HDMI input, component video input, composite video input, internal battery, ¼ BSW mounting thread and detachable sun hood.

The rest we've filmed with Panasonic x800. It has a 12x optical zoom, large 77mm LCD screen, and a dual image stabiliser.

Following shooting script/storyboard - P2 (b)

Created storyboard has helped me to organise the production process more efficiently. I've tried to follow my storyboard as much as I could. I had made a lot of shots that are shown in my storyboard and I has made some screenshots from my video to show what I've actually done and how my storyboard has helped me to follow my initial idea.

Here we can see that during all the filming process we've tried to follow our storyboard and we've managed to do it quite successfully. The comparison of the screenshots of my storyboard and shots from the video makes it clear that I has followed my storyboard during the whole shooting process. 

To conclude, I would like to say that storyboard was really helpful when we faced the shooting process. It told us what we have to film and which shots are needed to achieve the best result.

Fortunately, we didn't face serious problems when there was a high risk to damage our crew or equipment as we were following our risk control plan. Actors were always on time and the weather was good so we were able to shoot without difficulties. We made sure our camera is fully charged before shooting process. Actors understood that the commitment is very important and tried to help our crew as hard as they could. We always chose the right time for filming and noone was able to damage our process and disturb our actors. The only problem we had is that as we are unprofessional directors we needed more time to get the right nice shots, therefore, sometimes the shooting process was longer than expected. However, all the actors were fine with it and helped us to make good shots for our  project.

Following Production Processes - P2(d)

During the production process, we unfortunately faced some problems and had to change a little bit our storyboard and script.

Firstly, we couldn't organise the shooting of boys playing football as in our school boys are more interested in rugby. Due to this, we have changed football for rugby. However, it wasn't a big problem for us and we managed to do it successfully.

Secondly, it was hard to organise the shooting of the taxi at night. Taxis were busy and even if they were free, it would cost us money. As a result, instead of a taxi we have used just usual car, which was near the main entrance and we have made a shot in such way that it seems our actress came to school by this car.

Thirdly, we have decided not to include a shot where Nick is carrying the victory cup after a game. Also during the shooting the scenes on the football field there was only his girlfriend who was supporting him.

Overall, the problems we faced were not really serious and it wasn't hard for us to change a little bit our storyboard and the script. We have found the way of solving these problems and have done it quiet successfully.
